Rite of Spring

Made in China

SYNOPSIS

Quorum, in line with the ages-old Portuguese tradition of journeying around the world, as travelled to China and brings their chests full of references, influences, expectations, knowledge and history. This piece reveals the crossroads of our stories and those of the Chinese artists we have encountered and work with. This exciting journey and meeting provided the creative spark for our work.
“The value of things is not the time they last, but the intensity with which they occur. That is why there are unforgettable moments and unique people!”
Fernando Pessoa
Our performance, like the original Ballet Russes production, seeks to break with tradition – being the tradition Stravinsky’s music piece and Nijinsky’s choreography. The Rite Of Spring is the territory where Portugal and China, Portuguese and Chinese artists, meet, in a choral performance in which the final part of the performance takes key inspiration from the Qin Shi Huang’s Terracotta Army.
