Saudade - Back to Fado

“Saudade” is the pain of an absence, the desire for something or someone from which we are deprived. It is nostalgia, melancholy, remembrance of people or things distant or even extinct, and the great desire to become them.

A word with difficult translation into other languages, it is in the essence of the Portuguese people that always left for various reasons (for heroism, discovery, survival) always leaving a part of themselves in their land and the desire to return to it.

A choreographic work with artistic direction and choreography by Daniel Cardoso, also inspired by the literary work of the renown Portuguese poet Luís Vaz de Camões.

“Saudade” intends to return to the origin, in a mixture of feelings, pieces of pain, joy, solitude, friendship, helplessness and love. And all this letting us to be taken by the 12 strings of a Portuguese guitar…
