Daniel Cardoso, born in Lisbon, graduated from the Escola Artística de Dança do Conservatório Nacional
in Lisbon and the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance in New York.
He has been a dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company and Donald Byrd/The Group in New York City and has danced for the Peter Schaufuss Ballet in Denmark as principal dancer. He was rehearsal director in the re-staging of the ballet “Maple Leaf Rag” by Martha Graham, at the Teatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Throughout his international career as a dancer he has danced works by choreographers such as Martha Graham, Peter Schaufuss, Itzik Galili, Robert Wilson, Maurice Béjart, Donald Byrd, Susan Stroman, Richard Move, among many others.
Back in Portugal in the summer of 2005, he founded Quorum Ballet, where he is resident choreographer and Artistic Director.
His experience as a choreographer includes more than 35 works for Quorum Ballet, pieces for the National Ballet of Split (Croatia), National Opera Ballet of Albania (Albania), National Company of Kosovo (Kosovo), Edinburg Festival Ballet (Scotland) , Peter Schaufuss Ballet School (Denmark), Vaganova Academy (Russia), Afrikera Dance Theater (Zimbabwe) among many others. His choreographic work has been highly recognized nationally and internationally by specialized critics and presented in about 30 countries.
From the vast repertoire created for Quorum Ballet, “Rite of Spring | Made in China”, premiered in China in 2018 in co-production with Shanghai Oriental Arts Center, Magic Flute and Young Artists Plateform of Dance in Beijing.
Between 2007 and 2019 he was a professor and guest choreographer at the Vaganova Dance Academy in Saint Petersburg, Russia. In 2008 he creates the play “Encounters” for the Vaganova Academy premiered at the Mariinsky Theater.
His teaching experience includes the Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance (USA) Teatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Vaganova Dance Academy (Russia), National Opera Ballet of Albania (Albania), Oslo National Academy of the Arts ( Norway), Peter Schaufuss Ballet and PSB School (Denmark), Milano Contemporary Ballet (Italy), Escola Superior de Dança (PT) among many others.
Daniel Cardoso was a member of the General Council of the Artistic Dance School of the National Conservatory in Lisbon (2010-2022). Currently, he is also a guest judge in numerous international professional dance competitions.
