Contemporâneo
Born in Lisbon, Goncalo completed his professional studies at the National Conservatory of Lisbon. Following graduation he spent nine years living in Belgium, where he worked as a dancer, teacher, coach and choreographer for the company Charleroi Danses / Plan K under the direction of Frederic Flamand. He also participated in several projects, such as “SS”, directed by Josse de Pauw for Bruges – European Capital of Culture; “Body-Work”, Frederic Flamand’s creation for the Hannover Expo. In 2005, he joined the Ballet Nationale de Marseille as first guest dancer.
Since then, he has continued his work as an artist between Portugal and abroad, including several projects, such as “Compote” directed by Paula Pinto (Ballet Gulbenkian), the project “EHORA”, created by António Cabrita, Manuel Silva and Pedro Paz. At the same time, he initiated the creation group Babiloniautopica, with which he presented the piece “Fragility H” at the Malaposta Cultural Center. In 2006 he participated in the creation of “Medium Rare” by Pedro Goucha Gomes, 2007 “Diable aux Corps” by Jerome and Isabelle Meyer at KORZO PRODUCTIES, in the Netherlands and in the project “Delicado” by Sofia Silva, presented in Luxembourg and Ramallah (Palestine, 2008).
Since 2007, he has performed in the companies Paulo Ribeiro (e.g. “Paisagens”), CDCE (Companhia de Dança Contemporáneo de Évora), Marches and Boussoles (Dançarte, Palmela). In 2013, he created for CDCE the piece “Quid Iuris?”.
He teaches regularly at Quorum Ballet (Lisbon), Olga Roriz Company (Lisbon), Escola Superior de Dança (Lisbon), at the National Conservatory of Dance (Lisbon,) in the Studio 5 of the Academy,Jazzy (Lisbon), in Espaco-Dança (Torres Vedras -, in the A.P.E.C.I (association for the education of maladjusted children – Torres Vedras), and in the Companhia de Dança de Almada.
Since September 2014, he created with Eliana Campos the pieces “Sixth Sense”, “Silence runs from discomfort” (2015), “Invited to Think” (2017) and”Eminente” (2022) (Inclusive dance projects).
In February 2015, he was invited to integrate as a choreographer the television program “Achas que sabes dancar?” Since 2013, he created and directs (in collaboration with the Belgian company Untamed), the International Festival “Summer Intensive”. He initiated the Contemporary Dance Performer Course “Performact” in 2016 and has since co-directed the course as well as teaching and coaching its students. At the moment he is in full preparations to pursue his common goal with his partners to create a follow-up for all the young artists he mentored: GAPP company.
